Great toy until the trains start to die. Pros: creative free- form setup, expandable, multi- level, Geo.
Motion. Cons: Motorized trains quickly stop working (not batteries). Geo. Motion works in one direction. Had some questions asked of me and I also contacted Fisher Price about the trains, so I'll update my review. The good. This is a great train set for the little ones.. It was easy and fun to set up with my 2 1/2 year old, and he loved it so much my wife and I purchased many others expansion sets and trains via online and local retailers the next day. The tracks slide into each other and after the 2nd one you'll get the hang of it.

This set comes with one remote controlled train and controller that take 3 AAA batteries each.. The remote makes chugging and whistle sounds when pushed forward, a breaking sound when pulled backwards. It comes with two geo motion buildings that perform actions (e. The other position allows the train to pass through.
It also comes with a raised s- curve trestle that you soon find out is what makes the set, when the train chugs up the incline and then swooshes down the other side is the most exciting for our little one, which brings us to the really good. It's expandable AND you can take it vertical with either themed add ons such as the clock, mountain or bridge, or you can buy elevation packs to take you railway higher and higher. This is where the fun begins for moms and dads too. The not so good. The geomotion works in one direction (noted by an arrow on each building) and when the train approaches it from the wrong direction, it seems to jump and hop about. For a toy made for the 2 1/2 and up age group, you would hope it would be bi- directional.
Because our little one will put the train on the tracks in whichever direction he so chooses. This also forces one to be a bit more creative when expanding the set.
If you plan on expanding the Geo. Trax, also plan on having some serious real estate set aside because in addition to the track itself, you have to give your child ample room to play with each part of the geo motion world. Our little 4x. 4 set expanded to a multi- level 1. The trains run at one speed which isn't very fast.. The bad. The train engine limped to a slow stroll after the 2nd day of operation. A change of batteries did nothing to speed it up.
I checked the troubleshooting and FAQ for help and all it said was clean the wheels which also did nothing. During the time we purchased many add- on's and two more train sets (Starter train set w/dvd.. Highland Scenic Lines another remote controlled set). Within days all three trains slowed down, with the original Workin Town train now down to a weak crawl, Starter Train down to a stroll and Highland was about 3/4 speed.
Which is when I wrote this review. Update. I finally called Fisher Price on Monday April 3d, the ran me through some troubleshooting techniques that will "reset" the train and to this moment I still don't understand how, nor was it written anywhere in the user manual or online at FP's website.
I had to remove the batteries from the remote control and push the controller stick forward and then backwards, replace the batteries and give it a go. Well I don't know how, but it got the 'Workin Town Train' up from a death crawl to a medium paced stroll, and my 3/4 speed Highland Scenic Train almost to full speed. Since the Starter Train isn't RC'.. Fisher Price is sending me two trains as a replacement that will arrive in 1. Geo Train shipment). I've read other reviews where they received a replacement that turned out to wither just like the original.
I'm hoping not. I'll notch up the rating to 3 stars instead of 2 because Fisher Price is replacing the two trains but I have to keep the durability at 2 because without fully working trains, this is one big push along set and not that compelling for a small child and until I see how the replacements fare, I still have to say stay away from this train set because it's too disappointing to have a great super fun train set with loads of potential.. AND your child because the train are poorly built and do not last very long.
